Chasing the Jagentoths (Recap from 3-24-23)
(17th of Quen'pillar) The Hucksters heroes take a moment to breathe and relax in their new Clan Hall located in the Noble quarter of Grimgolir. Upkeep for this hall along with upkeep from the Hupperdook mines come to 505 gp per week. They met the staff and the steward showed the group around Grimgolir. The party talked to Lassryn Bronzepride, a performer at The Silverlodge Inn in the Great Hall, and delivered the Package to her that was entrusted to Grok by Rystia Zav. Lassryn. She invited the group to attend one of her performances in the Inn. The group deposited money in the Old Sentinel Deposit Bank and accepted an invite to talk with the King who was having Breakfast with the Lady Arabella Farlight, who offered to facilitate the group's travel to Shadycreek Run through a mirror walk.
The group talked with the king about the delicate diplomacy between the Dynasty and the Empire, and the growing threat of the Children of malice. Svela was worried about her family in Nogvurot and the king offered to send some royal guards to escort them all back to Grimgolir which was really all he could do as the empire has different laws for rich nobles than for poor farm families. The other members of the Group decided to chase the Jagentoth expedition to Molaesmyr; to do this, the party had to leave quickly for Shadycreek run.
Lady Arabella got dressed and went with the group back to their Clan Hall, she touched the great mirror on the stairs and the reflection of the Clan Hall's great hall was replaced by a dimly lit parlor. She motioned for the group to step into the mirror, as they did so the group stepped into the Mardoon estates parlor in northern Shadycreek Run. For a second on the other side they saw their clan hall’s great hall reflected and the lady Arabella waving as the reflection morphed once again back to the dimly lit parlor. Ophilia greeted them saying she’s going to have to do something about that mirror. After talking with Ophelia the group finds out that Reese Jagentoth had come back early, and along with eight ruffians, they had struck out for Molaesmyr to retrieve some sort of ancient weapon or artifact. This cannot be allowed. Those types of weapons cut both ways and the outcomes are never good.
(Da’Leysen the 18th of Quen'pillar) After a few hours the party decided to find a place to camp as it was getting later in the day, the group was getting really close to where the Booming Grove was supposed to be. It looked like the Jagentoth expedition skirted around the grove to the west going the longer way around it. There is a clear footpath going directly to the Blooming Grove, and the party took that direct path. In a short while as dusk was falling they arrived at the blooming grove, the party was greeted by Caduceus Clay, “Hey cool I guess I should pick some more tea… I hope I have enough cups.” He hurriedly makes some tea from the herbs and flowers growing on the graves. After introductions and tea he makes the group comfortable in the temple of Melora in the Blooming grove. The party had a warm nice stay before venturing once more into the blighted Savalirwoods. Caduceus told the group that there was no need for night watches, evil cannot enter the grove. Melora watches over the place.
(Miresen the 19th of Quen'pillar) Setting off once again through the Savalirwoods in the early afternoon the group encounters an area infested with beetles, ten swarms of beetles, after a brief battle the swarms are killed and travel resumes. Later that afternoon the group met Thoth, a Villager exiled for getting Lycanthropy and not being able to control it. He turns into a werebear when he is frightened or angry, and here in the wilds, he is trying to master the beast Grok does remove cures and cures lycanthropy. Grateful to the group, he warns them about the group of “badmen '' just ahead of the party who took a shot at him a day ago. Since the Group now has Leomund's Tiny Hut , no encounters were had that evening's rest. The group did see 5 twig blights wander through camp followed by a bone hunter and then an adult black dragon. None of which had any idea the party was even there.
(Grissen the 20th of Quen'pillar) Travels continue the next day through the cold blighted forest creepy as heck but no encounters, The group finds a few boulders and sets up the tiny hut for the night effectively negating any encounters that might have happened during their long rest (Darn that tiny hut spell!)
(Whelson the 21st of Quen'pillar) The next day during the first watch the group encounters a small creek 20 feet wide that cuts across the party's path. The stream had a shallow, easily crossed, fording place and got about three feet deep near the far bank; the characters refreshed their water supplies before moving on. There were fish that were natural (non-blighted) and edible, so foraging attempts made for food in this area was easy. This creek soon emptied into the larger river flowing through the Savalirwood to Molaesmyr. Ophielia told the group that taking the river would cut a day off the travel, so they looked around to see if they could find boats or craft a make-shift raft they had a real possibility of beating the Jaegentoths to Molaesmyr because their trail indicated they had forded the river and continued on by land.
As the party was searching they found a keelboat possibly left by the Mardoons hidden in some brush. They set off in the keelboat making a really good time heading downstream. During the third watch that day, a twelve goblins raiding party attacked from the banks, getting a jump on the party. But were quickly outdistanced and fell behind. That night once again no encounters due to the tiny hut so they missed the swarms of insects that swarm over the keelboat, and had moved on by day break.
(Conthsen the 22nd of Quen'pillar) The group continues their travel on the river, during first watch they encounter a section of thick undergrowth on both sides of the river which counts as difficult terrain making it hard to land the boat on the bank. The undergrowth contained four blighted animated trees. These animated trees pelted the party with large rocks before getting burned down by the passing group. The party managed to find a spot to land the keel boat so they could look for loot. On the bodies they found some coins off the bodies in leather sacks amounting to two thousand copper and a hundred gold coins. As night fell the group reached Molaesmyr, and almost a full day ahead of the Jaegentoths. The tiny hut came out nullifying any nighttime encounters in the cursed city.
Kobold Mining Profits for the first week of the fourth month, the Kobolds mining efforts failed to uncover any metals or gems, (Subtracting the mine expenses of 505 gp each party member loses about 84 gp taken out of the overall mine profits. (also 8 new eggs were laid in the lair)
