Preparing for the Underdark (Recap from 5-12-23)
After returning to Grimgolir through a blizzard which kept the party pinned down for several days on the trip from Nogvurot the group had the first truly comfortable night in several weeks. Waking up (Miresen the 5th of Duscar which was also the holiday of Embertide) to a good breakfast and servants to help with getting the group ready to face the day. There was news from the empire that their steward read to the group during breakfast/brunch.
The laws governing worship of only official Gods, was rescinded, freedom of religion is now a right across the empire, with the exception of more violent sects such as the betrayer gods.
There were going to be sky towers built in Rexxentrum, and Zadash, to facilitate world trade, with Issylra, Tal'Dorei and Marquet. This would strengthen the Dwendallian empire's economy and improve the standard of living for all the citizens. (Apparently Svela had been busy in her “talks” with the King, it appeared he couldn't refuse any of her requests).
Grimgolier, had been granted total autonomy from the empire as an independent Dwarven City State, with a mutual defense agreement between the Kings, who had agreed to support each other.
There was a formal invite to Rexxentrum and an audience with the King, for the Sedlakovas. And finally there was an offer for members of the adventurers group to join the Knights of Aquilo in the order of the North Wind, a group dedicated to protecting the common folk of the empire.
A sending spell to Svela revealed she was not sure what to think of the King's “attention”, but felt an obligation to protect her family and friends so she would do what she could to effect positive changes within the empire.
The heroes went to the royal court and sat in on the negotiations Between Grimgolir the Kryn, emissaries and the emissaries for the Dwindalian empire. They heard testimony from the junior priestess the group had rescued from the underdark. There was a suggestion that the party go back to the underdark and deal with the demon lords. The king said perhaps it's better to let the demon lords wreak havoc with the children of malice and then take on the weakened demon lords. But on further reflection, if the demons came to the surface, Grimgolir would be the first group attacked by the demons. It was decided that a joint strike force with Kryn, Dwindalian, and Grimgolier, forces going back into the underdark to take the fight directly to the demon lords.
The party agreed to do a scouting mission to assess the situation, with back up from the martial forces of the empire, the Kryn, as well as Grimgolir. So the group went to Zadash to memorize the teleportation circle there, and make introductions as well as to buy supplies from Pumot sol.
Next they bampfed (teleported) to their lair in Hupperdook, so Corvar could set up word of recall just in case things in the underdark became dicey. They then bamphed back to Grimgolir and prepared to meet Lassryn Bronzepride, who had said she needed to travel to Mantol-Derith, to help Rystia Zav and Sladis Vadir with trying to minister to the citizens there. She was going to help with restorations and healing in the wake of the demon incursion. She met the group of adventurers at the underdark trading post, to book a passage to Mantol-Derith. (The Theurgeme) Being as the party needed to take care of some business, she agreed to wait a couple days before setting off into the underdark.
(Grissen the 6th of Duscar) The party took the deep tram to the underdark trading post under Grimgolir to meet up with Lassryn Bronzepride and the intrepid crew of the Theurgeme. As was the tradition before a voyage the crew says the night in “The Abyss Inn” and have a party before setting off on the voyage. The captain told the group that the Theurgeme has been upgraded with Arcane Cannons that shoot balls of radiant energy to a point you can see within 500 feet of the cannon. The energy ball then explodes into a 20-foot-radius sphere at the point of impact. Each creature in that area had to make a DC 18 Dexterity saving throw, to avoid taking 30 (6d10) radiant damage. Creatures living in darkness have disadvantage on their save.
