Leaving Gravenhollow(Recap from 6-9-23)

The party awoke from a long rest and had some shocking surprises in the “library” It seemed there was no instrumentation in the library, matter was produced by thoughts or needs as the “library” responded in kind. The pallid elf sat at one of the desks and in a few moments parchments and inks appeared as well as quills with metal nibs, surprised by this she shrugged and started transcribing her memorized spells into a new spell book. Elmo sat down at the large dining table, and as he sat down a plate of freshly cooked food materialized accompanied by a cold mug of ale.

The party set out exploring the Library and discovered the keeper of the past Ulthar. He sorted and filed ancient texts, maintaining the immeasurably vast catalog that organized them. When not cross-referencing his expanding collection, he composed epic poetry and was responsible for curating and restoring wall carvings throughout the library.

Ulthar was infinitely patient, always welcoming any chance to discuss history with visitors. Of the three librarians, he was the most willing and likely to spend time with the library's guests. He treated surface dwellers as if they were figments out of dreams, but made it obvious he believed that such dreams have wisdom to share.

He gave the party a Stoneseer Crystal to gain knowledge from the archives in which the party gained knowledge of How and why the demon lords were in the underdark, having been summoned by Menzoberranzan’s archmage, Gromph Baenre, at the prompting and assistance from Lolth. The demon queen wanted to get all of her rivals out of the abyss so she could take over as sole ruler of the abyss. They also had visions of where the demon lords might be in the abyss.

They met the venerable drow archmage Vizeran DeVir, accompanied by Kleve, a death slaad bodyguard. He informed the party that he had opposed the tyranny of Lolth and her priestesses for centuries. He believed that some kind of demonic invasion of the Underdark was underway, and he had come to Gravenhollow to confirm his suspicions and make plans to combat it.

The drow archmage suggested that the adventurers make their own inquiries, and that they look in particular into Menzoberranzan and its archmage, Gromph Baenre. Vizeran then returns to his quarters, telling the adventurers how to seek the librarians if they don't already know how to do so. Later he offered to partner with the party to bring down the demons, the planning requires privacy not available in the library. He gave the party a map to his tower Araj, and told the party he would plan further there in a more private setting.

The group had a long discussion before agreeing to go and see what Vizeran’s plan was. As a safeguard Corovar with aid from Chardalyn and Elmo crafted some word of recall scrolls in case the party gets in trouble they have a fast way out. The pallid elf mainly works on her new spell book and tries to scrounge what spell components the library would furnish. After 4 days they finally leave the library only to find the cavern they had used to arrive at the library had shifted and looked different, actually leading off in a different direction.

The first day of travel, (Miresen the 1st of Horisal, also unnoticed by the party it was the Holiday New Dawn), the party started back toward the ship, as they traveled they saw signs of a passing caravan around 24 drow with carts and giant lizards. The pallid elf tried to convince the party to turn back to the library, but the party continued on. As they traveled farther the cart tracks disappeared, but the sounds of combat were heard ahead. The party stealthed toward the sounds of combat.

As the party arrived at the scene of combat they discovered a battle between the Drow and a bunch of demons in which two demons were about to finish off the Drow and start killing the drow prisoners. The pallid elf with the party begged the group to return to the library, to no avail. Just then a demon reached into the cage of the prisoner cart and pulled two bound and gagged figures from within, writhing and trying to scream their cries muffled by the gags, the  demon bit hard into one of the figures raining blood on the cavern floor. Then turning its attention to the other prisoner rending them with its deadly claws. More blood flowed and two bound figures lay unmoving at the demon's feet, killed, or unconscious. The rest of the prisoners squirmed desperately against their bonds as they tried also to scream in terror. Being gagged they only managed to emit pitiful muffled cries of terror. The party sprang into action and joined the combat. They killed the demons, rescued the survivors, even a couple of the drow then proceeded to loot the area.

The party was shocked when one of the prisoners they freed was an EXACT copy of the pallid elf that was accompanying them, if not dirtier bruised and bloodied! “Well I guess the jig is up '' the party’s pallid elf said as her form blurred and twisted into another form that of an old Night Hag “Well, I tried to warn you to stay away from the caravan, but would you listen? NO! Of course not!” She eyed the party once more “Grannie sent me to…” she pauses as if thinking of the proper words “keep an eye on you lot.” she continues, “Which I have, by assuming that thing’s pathetic form and mannerisms.” She has a look of disgust going across her twisted visage. “But now it's over, but not for you, Grannie has a great interest in you lot, though I do not know why” She starts making a few gestures “I guess, you have gained my interest as well, and your Auntie Bitty isn't easily interested!” She cackles to herself a bit amused by her own wit, and winks out into nothingness, not even the chilling cackle remained. The Loot was:

(Grissen the 2nd of Horisal) The next day of travel back to the Theurgeme the caverns started looking more familiar and as the night came they made it back to where the Theurgeme was hidden, Finding, according to the crew, they had only been gone four days. To the party it seemed like they had been gone 8 days so the 4 days in the Library were at hyper accelerated time. The party considered this as they ate a nice dinner and prepared for a night's long rest.
