The Next Adventure (Recap from 9-22-23)
(Conthsen the 20th of Thunsheer) The group woke in the morning to the perpetually dark sky of Rosohna, under the hospitality of the Den Hythenos. The group was treated to Kryn cuisine which was not totally unlike the fare they would receive in the empire only with more mushrooms in place of other vegetables. After this Chardalyn took the heroes around the city showing the sights she had discovered there. As they walked the darkened streets a sweet heady fragrance caught their attention. The seductive aroma wafted from a special type of plant that grows year round in the darkness of Rosohna producing pale white almost bioluminescent flowers and small red berries with a spicy exotic (and intoxicating) scent. Certain areas of the city were thick with the alluring scent.
One vendor they passed was selling bottles of wine made from an extract of those berries called ilhars-morn'lo. This wine is VERY potent inducing mild erotic auditory and visual hallucinations along with a heightened sense of arousal and desire. The vendor explained that this drink is often used in Kryn fertility rites, often used by couples on their first wedding night for insane heights of pleasure and passion. Abnar was given a bottle of this and warned to only take in small doses. There were bakeries and noodle shops and food carts, and various book shops, alchemist shops. General shops for dry goods and various household goods were plentiful with weavers and tailors tea shops with spicy exotic scents.
As the group explored the City Elmo traded spells with Rindar and memorized Den Hythanos’s teleportation circle. After this the group teleported to Elmo's tower finding that the dwarves had made repairs to much of the ancient stonework of his tower. They received word that the “drow slave" had been acquired by the myriad in Mantol-Derith. They teleported there and were handed a ruby with a tiny person trapped inside the cursed gem, the operative saying it's easier and safer for the prisoners by transporting them via cursed gems.
The party performed a remove curse and the gem shattered leaving a young drow girl standing frightened but defiant in front of her new owners. As her eyes fell on Corin the party could see her demeanor softened, a smile came to her face, and hope to her violet eyes. She rushed forward and embraced Coirin “I knew you would rescue me!” she kissed him “I have missed you so much!” About this time Jane said, "Who exactly is this Corin?” with a slightly angered tone in her voice tinged with jealousy. Corin then told his story of escape from the House Baenre and Drivenas capture allowing him to escape. Seeing Jane and gauging the situation, Drivenas' mood fell as she looked down, “y-you moved on…” she whispered in a disappointed voice. Corin said “Yes, Jane and I are together.” Jane gripped Corin's arm possessively. Steeling herself, she looked again proudly into Corin's eyes “I'm happy for you Corin, you deserved to be happy after all my race did to you.” She touched his arm and whispered softly “Honestly, I am happy for you.” before looking once again to the cold stone pavement of Mantol Dirth.
Neheedra approached the young Drow and wrapped a cloak around her while whispering “Come child, we should get you some food and rest.” She led Drivena away from the group to find some food and wine. As they walked away Drivena leaned heavily against Neheedra’s arm. After this encounter the group teleported to different areas Corin and Jane went to Grimgolir as did Grok. Elmo sent Abnar Nehedra and Drivena to the invictus estate, while Mallik went with Coravar to Zadash, finally Elmo himself went to his tower in Felderwin Tillage to hire some staff and copy some of his book notes.
Abnar worked on his spell books while Neheedra went Boar hunting with Abner's father and Brother. Drivena took an interest in the family's blacksmith, and was really fascinated by how he bends simple ores into beautiful sharp longswords. She even went as far as to help with the bellows and Hammer at the Anvil. She was very quiet and quite stoic but when no one was watching she would play with kittens and puppies around the estate. She was in awe and wonder of the surface world though the sunlight hurt her eyes. The moonlight was magical and she had the overwhelming urge to remove her clothes and dance in that moonlight, though she only did so when she was sure no one would see her.
The final Teleport Dialing Device Controller for the network of teleportation circles was completed but another one was ordered for the Invictus Estate in Rexxuntrum. Some of the statues were also delivered. It was drawing near time for the group to meet up at the newly opened Sky Tower in Rexxuntrum.
During their stay in Rexxuntrum Mallik assisted Opeilia with training some new recruits to the myriad and stayed in the safe house under the Leaky Tap. Corovar devoted his time to helping establish the Sarenrae Temple in Zadash thus establishing a community of faith foothold for their followers in Zadash.
It became time to meet for the long awaited air ship journey to Ank'Harel in Marquet via Port Demali and Emon. Elmo received a message from Chardelyn and her party were requesting that he teleport them to Rexuntrum, so he made a few trips getting everyone back to Rexxuntrum. There they saw the magnificent skyship “Wind Dancer'' with a length 210’ and a beam of 55‘ The three masted sky ship was a magnificent sight to behold floating on 6 enormous nearly 10’ chunks of softly glowing Brumestone with two more horizontally mounted in the stern to give an extra push in times of no wind. This massive ship seemed to float effortlessly over the city, and moored to the newly constructed sky tower. Hundreds of city folks gathered to see the spectacle, a new age of prosperity was dawning for the Dwendalian empire.
The group boarded the sky ship and chose their quarters. Abnar, Neheedra, and Drivena in one double state room, the two archivists and Albert in another. Corin offered to share his cabin with Drivena, but she refused saying she thought he and Jane should enjoy each other on this trip, and she would stay with Abnar and Neheedra as she really didn't require sleep, just a quiet place to meditate. Elmo stayed behind in his tower working on his book about the underdark, saying he would catch up later. Mallik and Corvar took the other cabin, and The Kryn entourage was going to just meditate in the salon at night with occasional trips to the top deck to assist with the watch and to marvel at the night sky.
The first day out was a beautiful summer day, and at one point the group saw what looked like a huge translucent glowing eagle drifting on the wind. A few hours later they caught the sight of a tear in the fabric of reality with huge amounts of wind and a hand reaching out of the tear, the captain Selki Nasser adjusted her course to give the tear a wide berth. Saying “Nothing good ever comes through tears into the elemental planes. But it did give the ship a big push allowing them to dock early in the seaside capital city of Port Demali almost a day ahead of schedule.
The ship moored for the rest of the day, and the night, giving the passengers time to explore the city. Abnar went to find his previous squire Gesepie. He found him in a small house living with his parents doing day jobs around the city to support them. He was very startled to see Abnar alive. He was sure he saw a huge brute of a bugbear bash Abner's head in during the battle, before he too was knocked senseless. He explained that when he came too, he saw Abner's seemingly dead body, so he took the horse, and dagger, and rode away from the carnage. He was ashamed he had not protected Abnar; he felt utterly defeated. He had nowhere to go, but to try and get back home to his folks, the horse spooked and threw him then ran off, so he walked all the way to Port Demali. His father had taken sick, and they were forced to move into the poorer part of the city where he was just scraping by doing odd jobs around the city. The Nightmares of that battle haunt him every night and shame of his failure haunts him every day.
Abnar convinced him to use the trade he was taught, to go join the city watch, be a guard, just don't let the training go to waste. Gesepie agreed and Abnar gave him 20 pp to buy some new gear. With that the group went to Abnars uncle's house to visit, finding him home at his estate in the Crescents, an affluent residential district located at the center of the city. He invited the group to dinner and brandy and smokes after. Then the group went back to the ship to get some rest and prepare for the next phase of the journey. Mallik slipped away and met with the Myriad contacts in the city to see if there were any messages from Ophielia, before retiring for the night.
