Journey to Marquet (Recap from 10-13-23)
(11th Unndilar 847PD) During the second night watch of the evening, some of the group were relaxing, looking out over the moonlit sea, they noticed a flock of Seagulls circling something on the water below. Upon a closer search, there was something glinting on the surface of the water in the moonlight.
The Captain called general quarters, and for the crew to ready the cargo crane and rescue basket. The ship spiraled down to within 30 feet of the ocean's surface. Here they spotted five ragged people sitting on a makeshift raft of wooden ship's wreckage lashed together with ropes.
A first mate and four sailors were hauled up two at a time into the cargo hold of The Wind Dancer. The first mate, Miss Luna Moss said that three days ago the merchant ship Autumn was set upon by pirates intent on taking the cargo. Which was 60 tons of Marquetian Cotton. The captain tried to make a run for it, and the pirates fired on the ship. The cannons hit the armory and exploded two barrels of gunpowder, breaching the ship's hull. As the sea rushed in, the ship started to break apart. When the ship went down, most of the crew was sucked down with the wreckage. She managed to fight her way to the surface and started lashing pieces of the ship together with floating lines from the ship's rigging. The pirate ship sailed off in search of other prey, as they likely felt robbed of their prize.
She said she managed to find four of the crew and pulled them to the relative safety of the raft. The survivors were: Elder 'Gray Beard' Oakley, a seasoned 51 year old able-bodied sailor and professional rigger, Jerrick 'Splinters' Graeme, a 19 year old deck-hand, Brainard 'Voodoo' Lux, a 26 year old gunners mate and an engineer in training. He wants to be a master gunner. Lastly the other surviving female, Claudine 'Siren' Marsh a 30 year old sailor who ran away to sea from an abusive partner. In a previous life she was a barmaid and sang at a local tavern. She is gifted with an enchanting singing voice. The Survivors were issued warm meals and dry clothing.
A few hours later during the 3rd watch, the ship's alarm sounded as the party rushed up on deck the ship was surrounded by a coven of ten Green Hags riding on flying brooms. They demanded a tribute of 500 gp to allow the ship to pass. The captain declined, and had the master gunner target the lead hag. The sound of the cannon being cocked broke the silence. Unnerved, the hags flew off, throwing a curse on the ship as they left. The last watch of the night went by uneventfully. The party was able to get some good rest and recover from the excitement of the evening.
(12th Unndilar 847PD) The day started out uneventful. A fine breakfast followed by relaxing on the sunny decks of The Wind Dancer. As the day wore on around the 3rd watch in the afternoon, the watch spotted a flock of ten harpies flying in the opposite direction of the ship. Two of them were burdened with a large urn cradled carefully in their claws.
As the night fell the group was treated to another magnificent sunset, during the 2nd watch, the members of the party that were lingering on deck noticed three black clad Gnomes, riding Giant Owls in moonlight hoping to remain unseen traveling toward the glow of Ruidus to the south.
(13th Unndilar 847PD) A brilliant sunrise and a day of clear sailing greeted the party. The day was a very pleasant warm summer day. Loreena Seawind the ship's navigator showed Abnar and Nehedra the Spelljammer helm, even letting Abnar take a go at the device. To him it felt like being submerged in a warm bath. At that point, his senses expanded; he was still aware of his physical body, but also he could feel the ship itself. Sitting in the spelljamming helm gave him awareness of everything taking place within the limits of the spelljammer's gravity plane, including vision of everything happening on the deck.
Most individuals could pilot a spelljammer through its helm for half a day before tiring; using the helm for a solid day would eventually cause the helmsman to pass out. It wasn't long before Loreena broke the connection and an exhausted Abnar slumped out of the chair. All spell slots drained. As the sun set, the crew prepared for the night.
During the 2nd watch, the watch sighted an island with a smoking volcano glowing below in the darkness. The 4th watch sited a Broom of Flying, drifting slowly with goggles and a leather helmet dangling from it Malik again snagged this broom with a grappling line. This brooms command word was written in the abyssal language.
(14th Unndilar 847PD) The next day was a beautiful day of clear sailing through pleasant summer winds. The crew and passengers thoroughly enjoyed the day. That night around the second watch, the watch spotted a Flying Carpet, riderless but with what appears to be a bulging satchel on top. It was flying at a high speed toward Emon. Grok, using a grapple rope, failed to snag the Carpet, but Jane managed to harpoon the satchel and pulled it off the carpet and onto the deck of the ship. It had:
Coins: 6038 gp, 4188 pp
Gems: 10 gems worth 5000 gp each [ 5 Ruby, 5 Emeralds]
Magic Items (2): [1 Potion of Supreme Healing (10d4 + 20), 1 Create Homunculus Scroll (Level 6)]
The rest of the evening was uneventful. Though Jane finally told Corin she was feeling sick in the mornings.
(15th Unndilar 847PD) The next day Jane saw the Doctor Ehsan Naifeh who let her know she was pregnant and it was going to be a daughter. She gave her some tea to help with the queasiness and recommended getting some relaxation while on the cruise. Nehedra told Abnar she was down to her last dose of the fungus from the underdark that prevents conception. Around the 4th watch of the day There seemed to be a LOT of static electricity in the air and soon after a flurry of static discharges engulfed the ship. The captain ordered all personnel below decks for safety. Soon after the lightning was striking everything on deck. At the height of the storm ten Lightning Mephits caught up in the storm landed on the ship and started destroying things. The captain along with some of the crew and the party ran on deck into the fray. The battle with the little electrical elementals was brutal but the party and crew finally vanquished them, as the last one exploded in a shower of sparks. The Group looted the satchels the being were carrying to find:
Coins: 2370 gp, 506 pp
Art: 2 art objects worth 1000 gp each [1 Small gold bracelet, 1 mithril ewer]
The storm dissipated as quickly as it came, halfway through the 4rth watch. The storm was gone. The ferocious winds of the storm cost the ship a half-a-days of travel time.
As night came and the ship sailed on, everything seemed calm. During the 4th watch the ship encountered a strange glowing pink weave of fog generated possibly by the proximity of a ley line. The Wind Dancer had to traverse this realm slowly causing another half day delay. The captain called for all hands to get quickly below decks, as the glowing fog engulfed the ship, heavily obscuring objects at 30 ft. The Captain said “This is a Ghost fog, and all hands must remain below where it's safe.” At this time seven wraiths who were caught up in the glowing fog attack. As the Party and some of the crew ran to the fight, non-undead creatures in the fog were more vulnerable to necrotic damage. The fog persists for two more hours, then as day breaks, the fog is left behind. After defeating the Undead the group looted:
Coins:4090 gp, 117 pp
Wraith Dust x7: When a wraith is killed, its form disperses into a fine mist, often scattering tiny motes of dust. The dust is difficult to see, but resonates with dark necrotic energy. Spellcasters, especially necromancers, can use the dust in spells and rituals. The dust is also a useful alchemical ingredient. 85 gp each.
